Preheat the oven to 350°F and line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper. Leave a little overhang on the sides so you can lift the brownies out easily later.
Prepare the sweet potato if you have not already done so. It should be fully cooked, cooled, and mashed until there are no lumps.
Mix the wet ingredients in a large bowl.
Stir together the mashed sweet potato, maple syrup, melted coconut oil, eggs, and vanilla until the mixture looks smooth and well combined.
Add the dry ingredients to the same bowl. Sprinkle in the almond flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon, then stir until no dry patches remain.
Fold in the chocolate chips if you are using them. The batter will be thick, and that is exactly what you want.
Spread the batter into the prepared pan.
Smooth the top with a spatula and add a few extra chocolate chips if you want a nicer finish.
Bake for 22 to 28 minutes. The edges should look set, and a toothpick inserted in the center should come out with a few moist crumbs, not wet batter.
Cool completely before slicing. This step matters because the brownies firm up as they cool, and they cut much cleaner once they are fully set.
